The right identification method depends on the event, the item, the environment, the operator and the system that receives the result. Compare the workflow before comparing equipment or media.
01 / FIELD NOTE
Start with the event
Describe whether the process needs a deliberate one-at-a-time scan, a close-range tap or a controlled zone that can observe moving or grouped items. Record direction, distance, operator action, timing and the business action that follows. These are application patterns, not guarantees from a technology label.
02 / FIELD NOTE
Match the physical conditions
Review metal, liquid, density, surface, attachment, range, orientation, durability, printing and replacement needs. A barcode, NFC construction or RFID tag still needs to be tested on representative items in the actual operating environment.
03 / FIELD NOTE
Compare the operating path
Line-of-sight scanning, intentional near-field interaction and controlled radio capture create different operator steps and exception paths. Compare how the workflow handles missing identity, duplicate activity, offline devices and ambiguous packaging levels.
04 / FIELD NOTE
Set the data boundary
Decide which identifier, item fields, location context and operator record each method should create. Keep personal or sensitive information out of the medium unless the project has a documented purpose, access model and retention rule.
05 / FIELD NOTE
Compare the complete scope
Include media, readers or phones, printing, attachment, replacement, application work, integration, training, support and exception handling. A technology comparison without the operating effort and recovery path is incomplete.
06 / FIELD NOTE
Choose with evidence
Test candidate methods against the same item hierarchy, movement, system mapping and recovery procedure. Record event correctness, operator effort, exception handling and system posting, then avoid relying on a generic price or performance claim.
Bring your material, movement, target read and system context to a sample or quote request.
